Julia, you know I was going to love this. Even with our age gap, I related so much to all your NY apartment memories, down to living back with my parents for a spell at 28.
That makes me so happy. I'm smiling to think of us both in that (weird, regressive, but possibly tender? just me?) experience of living with our parents again after so many years as adults. Curious to hear about yours sometime... Thank you Jenna!
Similarly to everyone else who has commented, just want to say I loved this-- as someone who is very nostalgic about literally every era of life and has loved pretty much every room/apt/home I have inhabited. Sometimes I worry about leaving a place because how could I love the next place as much? But then I do.
Thanks for letting me live vicariously through you Julia! I loved hearing about the city and your experiences. Your writing is so good that it felt like a walk down memory lane...and they weren't even my memories!
This was nostalgic as heck, even the newer bits. So very many of the scenes and streets immediately brought their own flurries of memories to me - as did the time periods, whether literal, or from my own familiar years. I still feel the small tangs of regret for not living somewhere longer, or similar.
I wanted to say that I loved experiencing NYC through your eyes, but I think it's more fair to say I enjoyed experiencing your life through the eyes of New York. I've come to love and adore the way this city changes lives, something I hadn't appreciated until I was much older.
truly your enthusiasm gives me such joy
Loved this, especially as a native New Yorker! You painted such a gorgeous landscape of the city, physically and emotionally.
Thank you Alexa. That is high praise
This was such a beautiful piece 🧡
Thank you!

A fascinating perspective - thanks Jonathan
All these places are lovely, I started my love with NYC by being a bike messenger in 2015-17. Each day is cinema ❤️
Wow! I would love to hear those stories
Your cat looks just like my cat! And those reading choices! The Body Keeps The Score is a wonderful book.
Ahh I see it! What a great profile photo. I'm inspired 🥲
